Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Logo

The Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) helps to keep your family healthy and strong. WIC is designed to provide the resources needed in order to feed your family nutritious meals. We will also provide information for other applicable professionals and services to help your family stay healthy. WIC is not just for mothers; fathers, guardians or foster parents may also apply for WIC to ensure the health of their children.

In order to qualify for WIC there are several qualifications that you must meet. Some of these minimum qualifications are:

  • You must live in Wisconsin
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding or have had a baby in the past six months
  • You have an infant, or children under age 5
  • All the income coming into the home (before deductions) is less than or equal to WIC income guidelines.

WIC uses the same income criteria as free and reduced-price school lunches. Visit our Apply for WIC page to learn more about the qualifications and how to apply.

After you are approved for WIC, you will meet with a WIC nutritionist to discuss your family's nutrition requirements and receive tips on planning healthy meals and shopping on a budget. If applicable, we can also provide you with training and resources to continue breastfeeding your baby. WIC benefits can be used to buy healthy foods for your family and may include:

  • Milk
  • Fruit juice
  • Peanut butter
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Cereal
  • Eggs
  • Beans and peas
  • Baby food fruits and vegetables
  • Some infant formula, if needed
  • Whole grain bread, tortillas, brown rice, and pasta
